  • 1970 Clutch Cable

Does anyone know the correct length of the clutch cable for a 1970 XLCH? The parts book lists it as P/N 38619-53B, which supposed to be 56-3/4" long. I suspect that that P/N was succeeded at some point. I think that the listed length is that of the wire cable? So, I need to know the correct length of the cable and the length of the housing as well.
    Thank you....

I looked at their cables and they appear top be nicely made, but not original appearing at all. So, It looks like I'll have to shorten a longer cable to get the handlebar arch to resemble original. Not the end of the world - I just wanted to avoid the work. Thank you again for responding.....

I have some extra metal sheathed cables if you figure the length assuming that is what you’re looking for. Somewhere in the early AMF years they switched to vinyl but I’m not sure exactly when.

Wasn't the cable length determined by what handlebars were fitted to the bike at that time? The 71 and later clutch cable came only in one length excluding XLCR and maybe some others in the later 70s

Yes, the cables were dependent upon the type of handlebars used. I'll probably just make up a cable based upon the cable rise above the handlebars, based upon the factory advertisement photos I have.
