    Tillotson Economizer Valve

I noticed that the HD-1D carburetor body for my 1970 CH isn't machined to accept the economizer check ball and welch plug. I also have an HD-2D that does have this check ball. Given that the HD-1D and HD-2D were both used in 1970 (Sportster and 74, respectively) I'm curious to know why the Sportster version doesn't have one. Please see the attached photos. Any insight?
