Sportster fuel tank

On the 1970’s Sportsters, what year bikes use the same tank. Looking at 78 with a dented tank. Is there a part number that goes with that era and is it stamped on the tank? Thanks

The CH tank thru 74 used the -55 petcock, which had a male thread. The later tanks used the Japanese style petcock which had a double threaded nut to secure the valve to the tank. Tanks thru 71 also had a vent line fitting on the bottom of the tank for the Tillotson carb.
