I'm not too far from finishing this K Model that I got in several trailer loads of parts nearly 40 years ago.
It time to finish this old dog, but I'm running into things I've never fooled with before. I need some information almost as bad as I need a few hard to get parts.
Lets try information first.
I have two headlight shells that need repair before chrome plating. One has a number of cracks in the shell, but a few very lite dings. The other has less cracks and more lite dings. I was asked what the material the HL shell was made of, I put a magnet to it and got a surprise. Turns out the old Guide HL shells on the K Models were made of brass. Has anyone ever repaired these hl shells before? Did you braze or silver solder the cracks. How did you go about straightening lite dings before chroming the shell?
I need to find several parts for this bike.
First I need a seat or seat base. Someone had one on another forum a year or so ago and I didn't know how to use the forum, so I missed the message.
Second I need the timer housing and the points base. The one that came on the bike was close, someone took an actual '37 timer housing and butchered it up. Then they had the wrong breaker base on it. They must have had fun timing this thing.
Third I need to try and find a horn. I know good luck on that one.
Forth and last, I need a 52 / 53 Speedometer that is rebuildable or in nice shape.
What I really need are contacts that are familiar with K Models and know who else may have parts for these oddballs.
The webpage "harleykmodel.com" is a really good source for technical data on these bikes.
Thanks
Sam
