  • The Gathering of Ironhead Sportsters - 9/18/21 (lots of photos, video, and story)

Let the record show that on Saturday, September 18, 2021, the PA/NJ-area Ironhead Owners, Riders, and Lovers group held our bi-annual gathering known worldwide as the "GBB."

This was a special gathering because it celebrates the 10th anniversary of our event. I can tell you with certainty, had you told us back in 2011 that the gatherings would be held twice a year for the next 10 years, we surely would have laughed you off. But here we are 10 years later, and the PA/NJ Ironhead gathering has evolved into the premier Ironhead Sportster-specific gathering, unmatched anywhere else around the world!

The solo ride to the diner on the morning of the GBB is like Christmas morning for me:

Let's get right to the good stuff because I know you opened this thread to see Ironhead photos, not read a history lesson on the GBB.

Saturday 9/18/21 was blessed by the Ironhead gods with beatiful fall weather, and 13 Ironhead RIDERS came out to share in the glory of the GBB. I do have to apologize for not remembering everyone's name, but if your name is not mentioned, feel free to add it below.

There are few sights more magnificent than the lineup of Ironheads out front of Orlando's Grill in Ringoes, NJ:

Here are some better photos of the Ironheads in attendance:

I am sad to say I forgot this gentleman's name, but he rode this cool 1975 custom down from north jersey:

This 1977 XLH belongs to another GBB first-timer who's name I have forgotten:

1970 XLCH belonging to a local guy:

This 1985 Sportster belongs to a gentleman named Tom who has attended a GBB in the past, so it was great to see that he returned:

Punk Rock Jimmy is a GBB first timer on his 1968 XLCH:

Murph attended on his 1967 XLCH custom:

One of the greatest parts of the GBB is just hanging with fellow Ironhead RIDERS. I hear so many stories of folks who spend their adult lives riding their ironhead and hardly ever see another. So we love to stand around and shoot the ironhead **** while admiring each other's bikes:

Anyone who attends the GBB is an Ironhead RIDER, so after breakfast we normally take an informal ride together, and most of the attendees normally tag along. 16ouncePBR planned a really nice, scenic ride for us through Hunterdon County, NJ and Bucks County, PA.

Here he is showing us how tall the ape hangers are that he plans to install on his bike:

After everyone rode about a tankful of fuel through their bikes, we ended at Ironheadquarters for a picnic put on by MagKenzie and Mama Magneto. They have no interest in Ironhead Sportsters whatsoever, but they threw us a great party, so I really appreciate it and thank them very much! The food was fantastic, and it gives everyone a few more hours to talk Ironheads before it is time for all to part and go their separate way.

I was really happy to see so many returning attendees this year, and just as excited to see new faces. Hopefully they will return again in the future! There are a lot of people who talk about attending the GBB, but it can't go on forever so spend this winter working on your Ironhead and be ready for the Spring 2022 GBB in May/June. You never know when it could be the last GBB. To be honest, I had considered making this 10th anniversary GBB the last one, but my trip to the Canadian Ironhead Rendezvous in August was so much fun that it inspired me to keep it going.

Here is a video that I took of our group ride. If clicking on the thumbnail below doesn't work, you can just use this link to the YouTube video:

There is no event more fun for an Ironhead enthusiast like me than the GBB. I can type with the best of them, but there truly aren't words to describe the feeling of being in a parking lot full of Ironheads and then touring back roads with a pack of them screaming with their exhausts in unison. I highly recommend that you come out and join us if that sounds like fun to you.

    Thanks for reading,

Great pictures, Jerry! Looks like a fun time. That's a lot of very nice Sportsters. That '67 XLCH stroker is a beauty!
Maybe I missed it somewhere but what does GBB stand for?
