  • Early Oil Tank Needed

I have an incorrect oil tank installed on my '64 and need the correct one. I'm looking for the 1963 through 1965 horseshoe tank with the feed sump located in the rear, lower left corner. I would prefer one in good condition, but will consider all offers. Please contact me if you have one to sell or trade.
    Thanks...

Yes Chris, actually there are a few right now and two are the correct ones. However, one is in poor shape and the other also needs work and both are terribly over priced. I don't mind paying for quality; some of this stuff does command considerable prices. But I do mind being extorted. I'll intend to keep looking on eBay, although my long time experience is that parts acquired from AMCA members are most often offered at fair and reasonable prices and you get what you expect.

My tank had been chromed. I had it stripped and repainted black. No body work was needed.
Our judging rules say that if the tanks and fenders on an unrestored bike are repainted that you get a 6 point deduction. The folks judging my bike wanted to add extra points for the oil tank being repainted. I argued that the rule says tanks and fenders and did not specify which tanks.

There was a good selection at the Sunshine Meet during Bike Week, reasonably priced to ridiculous!

Jeff Coffman probably has the tank you need.

              Gentlemen,

Thank you for your responses. I became impatient and decided to attempt to salvage a chromed and crashed oil tank that I found in my inventory. I need's a LOT of work, but there's some satisfaction in removing a piece form the scrap heap and putting it back into service.

Chris - this bike is a complete restoration, so the tank re-paint shouldn't be an issue. Also, its already been judged once at Terryville, Ct.
