  • Ride to work day: a humble challenge

The Ironhead Sportster Garage, a private Facebook group of 3000 members, hereby challenges the entire AMCA to a ride to work day ride-off on June 17.

We will ride only pre-84 sportsters.

Bragging rights will be two-fold, most members riding, and most miles ridden.

I will post a thread on the Ironhead Sportster Garage on June 16 to start collecting riders on June 17. I will do the same under parking lot chatter on the amca forum. If the moderators want to move it, cool. I'm not on the amca Facebook site and ask some one take up the challenge there.

    Rules are simple:
    1) no pleasure rides. You must conduct business. Retirees can go to the post office, etc.
    2) post a photo of your bike at work with the round trip mileage.
    3) no profanity
    4) be honest
    5) have fun.

We will tally up later in the week and the "winners" get nothing but bragging rights.

Who's in? I'm planning to hurt my '59XLH on a 70 mile round trip.

Last year I rode my 1965 Electra Glide and got a nice photo in the AMCA magazine. Maybe I will ride my 1977 XLH to work this year!

How about K models? My '60 CH is out of commission, but my '56 KHK runs great.

Well, my own 59XLH is sitting in a 54 K frame . . .so yeah, we'll take K models. Heck, we'll take anything to promote riding -- it's just about bragging rights if we can turn out a large number of K models/Ironheads.

If I may humble suggest the '61. It seems MANY younger riders are in disbelief about bikes made prior to the '70s being able to be ridden in "modern" traffic.

RIDE TO WORK DAY IS HERE.

Over on the parking lot, I started a new thread so we can all share our bikes at "work." Please post a pic of your bike (or you and your bike) at work or just being used as a bike should be, for transportation (and fun). To get us started, I posted a picture of Althea, my 59 XLH at the office this morning. 65 miles round trip and 55 degrees.

                    Well done!

A whole three riders from the IHSG ride yesterday, and two of them were retirees.

                    Oh well . . .

This is roughly a 2 1/2 mile round trip -- barely enough to warm the engine oil on my '56 KHK. Next year, I plan to be retired from the practice of law so that I can be a full time biker and a part time farmer.
