Need some info on a 1959 xlch

I have a 1959 xlch in my shop. It has dual l & l carbs on it. I thought they are tillotson carbs. But they have l &l on the casting. the owner says it is a factory set up for desert racing. I can not find any info that proves it was a factory option. I have attached some pictures. If anyone knows anything about this, i sure could use some help. Have a buyer lined up, but he wants some proof

Nothing to do with H-D, they are an aftermarket set-up!

The gear arangement to sychronize the throttle shafts is amazing. It doesn't show up in the advertisement. What a great motorcycle.
