Dose anyone know if the stock key is cut on one side or is the key double sided.

The key for my 1981 FXWG was a Briggs & Stratton. Cut on one side only

I know on my 1972 FLH the key is onesided. The aftermarkets were all two sided keys.

I take it we are talking FL keys, FX bikes (and maybe XL's) started using a different switch in 73. Those keys were also one sided but I believe they were a different blank. Original keys for these switches were labeled AMF HARLEY DAVIDSON on the head.

Shovelhead, my key for my 1974 FXE is a two sided key, Chicago Lock on one side and an alfa-numeric code, key id on the other side. What year and model are you asking about. Tim

I think if I remember correct that the cuts on the edge of the keys were the same and would fit most locks if the little plate on the end of the lock were removed.
