When did Big Twins start getting Compensator Sprockets in the primary drive?

    Thank you

There was an oddball in '54 that retro-fitted to '36. The spring loaded one came out in '55 and was part of the equipment packages or could be had as an over the counter option. The one with stacked diaphragm springs was a change when alternators were introduced in '70. Remember that the standard solid sprocket was always available.

That 54 unit you mention was only available as an accessory starting in 55. Don't think solid sprockets were an option after 70 either.
