  • Questions about a 1978 1/2 FLH

I brought home a 1978 80cu FLH and I have a few questions while I wait for some parts and a manual to arrive in the mail. This is my first shovelhead so I'm pretty unfamiliar with them.

What is the correct way for the fuel lines to be routed? Currently, a crossover line is routed between the head and the front down tube connecting the right and left tank. Should this line be on the inside of the frame up against the head or should it be in front of the frame to keep it away from the engine?

Also, the fuel line from the petcock to the carb is routed the long way going forward of the engine around the front down tube and then back to the carb. Is this correct or should it go from the petcock and between the cylinders to the carb?

I have read about hard bag lids flying off. Can someone post a photo of a modification you made to keep this from happening? I've heard of drilling the front tab and using a pin, or modifying the lock.

This bike is equipped with a center stand, or I think it's called a service stand. Just out of curiosity, what's the method for getting the bike up on the stand?

Crossover goes to the outer of the down tubes, supply line goes between cylinders with a wire support. I use the small bungee cords hooked to the brackets across the lids to secure them. A lot of people do drill the front clip and put a hitch pin in it.
