  • 1966 FL front end top tree

I noticed that there is about a 16th of an inch clearance between the top tree and the cone seat when the top tree is secured to the forks. Any thoughts on this. Before I put the lock washer and nut to secure the top tree I wanted to know what would prevent the cone nut from working loose. My 1965 has no clearance in this area.

Fork tubes too high in the lower tree? The top tree seated on the cone nut sets the height of the fork tubes. There is an anchor pin that lines up with a hole in the top tree and the cone nut. Check the parts book for components involved.

It should be flush. Loosen the lower pinch bolts and allow the tubes to slide down until it fits correctly.

Thanks much, sometimes the obvious isn't so. Had the front wheel in the lift lock, loosen and it came right up. Can't see the forest, trees are in the way!
