Leaking Crossover Pipe on 73 FLH

Could anyone please advise me as to how I can seal up my leaking crossover pipe where it fits over the rear header Y pipe on my 73FLH? I've tried wrapping a couple of layers of that HVAC aluminum foil tape to the inside of the joint, (please don't laugh) only to have it heat up and blow out. The pipe fits tightly when I install it over the foil tape wraps. I'm NOT using mufflers, only straight fishtails (no back pressure) and can't figure why the tape joint isn't holding. Thanks for the help, Twister the Fitter / Tim
