  • Oversized rocker shafts

    Does anyone know if anybody is making oversized rocker arm shafts for Shovelheads ( aprox .005 ) ? Thank you , Mike

    Mike; I checked my sources and did not find o.s. shafts. Normally you replace and size new bushings in the rocker arms. The problem for a person doing their own work is the $ 172.75 dealer priced reamer.

      Lots of Industrial Tool Suppliers with reamers and priced so a hobby shop can afford one, 25-35 dollar range but you may need a Bridgeport or Lathe to properly complete re bushing to size.

        Sorry to get out of my Zodiac, TomL!

        But reamers don't usually need a machine, if their cutting edge is over-length enough to pilot from both bearing surfaces.

        My hopes are somebody can link us to a source of such, even if semi-affordable, because I need just shy of a quarter-incher of four-inches or more,..
        seriously.

        Thanks for the hope!

        PS: There used to be a machine shop in the next town downroad (not even the "highway") that did such things for me perfectly. (*sigh*)

            This style needs to be "chucked" in a machine and is what I was referring to in sizing rocker arm bushings that have been replaced.

              Of course, TomL!

              I am suggesting that a reamer with a flute length longer than the rocker arm would make it much simpler.

              Then you wouldn't need to figure out how to fixture the arm;
              Just hold the reamer in a vise, and twist the arm on by hand.

              I always Sunnen-honed shovel bushings anyway, but they don't make a 1/4" mandrel long enough for carbs.

              So I must commission a long reamer that will align skewed bushing bores before I hone-finish.
