  • Panhead Screws

I'm looking for a source for 3/16-24 screws for my '48. Don at Headhogs is just finishing up a set of heads for me and they are back to original. The current heads on my bike are '48's but have the D-ring and some allen screws and I'd like to take it back to stock. If anyone knows where one might get ahold of these screws I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried Old Dude, Lilburn, Georgia? In my experience, he and his son have the old hardware about covered.

Colony has a store on ebay. I get all my H-D fasteners from them. Fast shipping and perfect reproduction.

You better tell Clete your application. If you tell him 48, he’s going to send you the little Phillips screws that won’t work with the D-rings. Bob

Thanks for the suggestions fellas. I'll see what I can come up with. Bob, I want to take it back to '48 specs and won't be using D-rings...

Yeah, the Ebay vendor goes by Colony_USA. It's 45 Restoration Co. or one of them, with a franchise to retail everything Colony makes

Thanks for the heads up Sarge.... I think I'll try for some NOS one's prior to ordering re-pop. I'm slowly trying to take the ol' girl back to original and real parts would be nice. If not I'll just order reproduction as this bike's my rider....

                  Hey Cory,

The first 48's had slotted screws and later they changed to phillips. Make sure you get the ones you need. I have two early original paint 48's both with slotted screws in the rocker covers. They both also have black painted cylinders, cast iron lifter blocks, chrome rocker covers and even have parkerized round heads screws on the exhaust port clamps, not the typical cad plated cp1038 bolts. I just completed a very high number original paint 48 for a customer and it had phillips head screws, silver painted cylinders and stainless rocker covers and air cleaner cover. The bike was such a late 48 that it also had a stainless timer cover and stainless inspection cover. I've also had a high number 48 a few years ago I got from the original owner and it had criss-cross 49 oil lines, western buckle bags and a riveted license plate bracket on the tailight. Lots of changes in 48 depending on when in the year it was produced. I can go on and on. I hope this helps. Give me a call if you need more 48 info. 845-389-7197 www.The74Shop.com

Wow Steve!!! It looks like I'll have to do a little more checking before I go ahead and order screws! Thanks for the info. I'll do a little research and see exactly when my bike rolled off the line. Perry Ruiter was kind enough to calculate it for me some months back. The info is unfortunately on my last "crashed" computer but if memory serves me it rolled off the line in the spring of '48. I'll have to do some figuring. Thanks again.

Perry was nice enough to re-forward me the info and it looks like, with his super dooper formula that my bike rolled off the line on March 22, 1948. Very cool stuff to know.
