  • Another "RESTORATION"

He's in for a rude awakening. That 48 Pan that was on Fleabay the other day with a Senior First didn't make reserve at 23K. Hard to believe someone would drop 20 on this but ya never know........

      Restoration?

      Here's another: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130463707663

I AM SELLING THIS BIKE FOR A GOOD FRIEND. HE HAS HAD THIS BIKE SINCE THE EARLY EIGHTIES, AND STILL PUTS ABOUT 500 MILES A YEAR ON THIS BIKE. THE BIKE IS LOCATED IN NEW JERSEY.

This is a total restoration By Starklite of California (the best in the business. His firm did all Steve McQueen's Indians). It's an older restoration in the late eighties or early Nineties - I don't remember exactly. I purchased the bike in the early eighties rode it and then did the restoration. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL MATCHING NUMBERS BIKE, It's one hellulva of a bike, powerful, great torque and handles like it is on a rail. Also, you should know that the Amal carburetor use on the 1953 is flawed to where it was dangerous and on occasion could cause fires. On my restoration, I replaced it with a Linker Carb, but I kept the original Amal in storage. It is in perfect condition and only needs someone with the courage to use it. I'm not a fan of gasoline fires. Some differences on my 1953 Chief, all of which add value and came with the restoration.

eBay is for sellers, remember that. You can say whatever you wish about whatever you're selling, and what's the risk? Negative feedback! Big deal. The poor sucker still has the poorly described item, right?

I could go on with my rant, but hey! I just bought a part off of eBay...I paid too much, but I'm happy with the part.

When I joined AMCA this summer I was kinda hoping the AMCA Forum would be a good place to source parts, and I don't think it is or will be. eBay has the advantage of reaching a tremendous audience, if you sell on eBay you can get top dollar for mediocre stuff. So if you're knowledgeable about antique motorcycles you basically know too much to buy from eBay! Except you always wonder: "maybe I can get this scarce part for a good price!"

Because... if you don't buy it, someone else will!

The fact that the Indian was on the cover of "My Machine" makes it well worth 60 grand! !! ??? And i'm really suprised that neither bike has a written appraisal for $20 or $30K more than what they are selling it for? ? Jp

Oh, really? Hard to spot the original parts. My favorite is the fuel line crossover, I wonder what year HD used that "set-up"?
