  • Linkert needle question?

Every day I learn how little I know.

Although I have only had a handfull of M74 (no B) models cross my benches, none had an unusual highspeed needle.

Yet here we have one with a stepped tip like those funny bombsight carbs for Ks or whatever ( on left in attachment).
But it has the Big Twin knob.

By visual inspection, the seat in the casting looks ordinary.

Can anyone add any certain information about this unusual needle?

    Thanks in advance,

    ....Cotten

    Nevermind.

    Thanks to the Fossil Record,
I have found yet another M74 (no B) with the same HS needle.

Although there is no reference in the Parts Book to such a needle, it did shine light upon the 12 degree throttle disc found with it, as both are listed for either model of carb.

Once again, I guess History doesn't need the AMCA after all,

Tom, I finaly got to my M74 yesterday, it was buried beyond a couple hundred pounds of recyclables. The carb appears to be a nice low mile unmolested piece. It has the 9 degree disc and the common high speed needle.

        Kyle!

I very much appreciate your reply!

We must presume that the factory put them out at great variance,as two completely un-related examples with this unique needle is too much to dismiss as 'barnyard'.

See you at D-port I hope,

How (and why) did this thread suddenly get stars attached to it?

                Perry!

I guess that's "how", but I cannot imagine "why".
Let's see if I can un-rate it, which might mean it was my fault in the first place.

It won't be easy when the site opens up in long vertical strings in my antique browser, with lots of un-labeled tabs.
(I try to memorize them when I can sneak onto my wife's laptop...)

                Thanks,
