Wrong field coils

I am rebuilding my 52e 3 brusk generator. One of the field coils is bad and needs replacing. I have discovered that the generator has 32e field coils and not 52e coils. Are the two interchangeable? Should I use the correct field coils? Will there be a problem using the armature that is in the generator now? Help please, this has me really confused.
