    51 Pan Kick Cover

A discussion in the Knuck section had me fooling around with covers and the camera. Just to aggravate the detail freaks I'm showing a picture of a Pan cover that shouldn't exist according to poular consensus. Clearly coded from March of 1951.

You photo is too blury to read the code. Is it a letter/number or two numbers?

That's probably a '41 cover. I've seen a few pre-'48 covers that did not have the lower numbers ground off as Mr. Palmer's book states they were.

Chris, It's 3-1 and very clear in real sight. I don't know what is going on with the camera, when checking the picture on the camera screen it looks great, when I import to my file it gets fuzzy.

That is the early 1950's codes. Number/number. Prior to that it was Letter/number.

The white 52 FL featured in the spring 2009 issue of the club magazine has a cover just like that one, with a "3 1" date code. The tag is upside down and the casting numbers at the bottom are illegible. While I do see a few pigsnout covers showing up stating in early 51, most I see through 52 are this same earlier type cover.

The earliest pan style cover I have is dated K-7. I have a few -8 and -9 covers but nothing with a 0
