How can I tell if I'm looking at a set of original or aftermarket tanks and fenders for a 64FLH? I would love to replace my repop junk but dont want to waste money on something that is only "claimed" to be OEM. I know for the rear fender the hinge should give it away but the only picture given is of the bottom side. Tanks, I have no idea...

I looked at the eBay auction in question, and 'zoomed in' on the rear fender hinge. It appeared to me that the two hinge barrels connected to the main hinge body are a indeed a little wider than the other 3 connected to the flap portion. If I was considering buying it, that would tell me that at least the hinge is more than likely OEM. Good chance that the rest is too.I also noticed in the blown-up photo a rust-through area just above the hinge. Will no doubt need some body work.
When I looked closely at the blow-up of inner faces of the gas tanks, they do seem to be original, and I also notice a repair has been made to the lower mount tab of the left tank.
The front fender looks good, but I couldn't tell OE from original, other than the brackets, and they look right to me.
I have no connection to the seller, I'm just expressing what I see in the photos. I know it is frustrating to find original sheet metal in good shape. Good luck.

I ended up picking up this set of tins. I have never seen an "original" set in person, but know enough to know what's on my bike is aftermarket. What is the best way to authenticate both fenders and the gas tank? I want to make sure everything is correct for my bike prior to starting the restoration on these parts.
Thanks

the best way is pictures. the more the better. i have an original set of fenders and can compare hole locations for the trim etc. there should be holes for a light bar on the rear fender and holes on the sides of the front fender above the usual side chrome strips for the duo-glide emblems if both fenders are original. the tanks should have a mounting strip spot welded on with little ribs on the strip and two screw holes in each side of the tank in between the ribs
