  • Springer shock hardware

On 48 Panhead springer shock mounts hardware. What’s cad and what’s parkerized I know the studs are park but what I can see in some photos is that the washers are cad. I can’t find anything in Palmers bible on this subject. I’ve seen pics of 47 Knucks and everything is park. I’ve been racking the melon on this for a few days now. Thanks, Bob L

Everything is Parkerized except the clip that holds the wiring which is Cadmuim plated.

In that pic the clip looks parkerized. The zerk fitting right next to it is cad and you can see the difference in color. I know a lot of people say it should be cad but what would be the reason for it to be cad? It would cost more to produce and it doesn't need to conduct electricity. Does anyone have and original factory photo where you can tell they are cad.

I have some NOS ones that came in an original bag and they are definitely parkerized.

That is a factory photo and it is cad. Lighting often changes the way things look. The lighting on this one may be more to your liking.

I think Bob is right. There's no fork lock on this frame.

I think the first photo looks like a '47 to me. The second pic of the later bike only helps prove my point. There is a definate color distinction between the clip and the shock mounting hardware in the second photo that is not present in the first image.
Chris, thanks for posting the photos.

Once again I will try to explain to you that lighting changes the way things look. The first pic of the late '47 is exactly like the '48. All is parkerized except the cadmium wiring clips.

Let me explain how the lighting is the same on the clip as on the parkerized nut in front of it and the parkerized washer right behind it and all the parkerized parts all around it. May I also add the lighting is the same on the zerk fitting beside it. I would understand your point if this was a poorly lit shot but it is not. That is definitely a parkerized clip. If you can't see my point I would say your lighting is pretty dim.

I have a handful of those wire clips that are NOS. About half of them are Cad and the other half Parkerized. I believe different years used different finishes so it is a matter of determining which one is used on your particular year. Looks like '48 was Cad!
