  • Panhead engine rebuild? (1958)

    Hello all!

I am a brand new AMCA (still in the wrapper) member. I am re-building a 58' Panhead. I live in Las Vegas, NV area, and I was wondering if anyone knows or can recommend a shop in Las Vegas or the Southern California area? I'd like to see if some of you have any previous experience in the LV area.

    I appreciate any help...

    Regards,
    Ran

    Ran,
What are you doing with the bike? Restoration, preservation or custom? In the Los Angeles area I know several builders. Perhaps ole Pigpen knows someone in Vegas.

I live SW near Rainbow and 215. I believe I have visited most of the engine builders in Las Vegas and almost all failed the clean and organized shop test. I have used 2 of them that looked reasonably organized. One took a year to build a 58 pan. I took my motor back from the other one. I have also talked to 6 or 7 other locals with vintage bikes and they all go to CA or AZ.

I now use Bill Chambers in Upland, CA. He is NE of LA, near I15 and I10. It has been well worth the drive. He builds 4 or 5 motors a month in a nice clean motor room and his turnaround time is 3-4 weeks. He quotes a fixed price and there are no surprises. He also has a full machine shop and builds nitro drag motors from billet. I just put my 250th mile on a 49 pan that Bill built. It runs great.

If you want more info, email me directly at pigpen11@hotmail.com.

If you need parts, there's nobody in Nevada better than Cecil's for parts in stock and good advice.

Hi Chris, the bike was is storage since 1972.... motor is frozen, and lots of parts are MIA. Id like to get as close as I can to showroom condition. I have been reading your comments about various topics, and I must say that I learn a lot. Thank you for sharing your passion and knowledge with the rest of us. Hope you won't mind if I'd pick your brain in the future... :-)
