Looks nice in pictures. While I admittedly am not that familiar with 65's in particular, I do question the silver painted exhaust pipes. I thought they were chrome by then.

As I have posted elsewhere, polished-out camcover and primary cases are not a bonus, but a red flag.

I would add more comments, but my dial-up would take all night to view the machine properly.

          I need more room LOL

I'd consider this one to purchase, always better to have it it front of you like you can for a closer look as well as ride. The horn obviously is earlier style upgrade aftermarket 12v, Taillight lens looks deceiving as a later 69 style in pic which is minor as long as entire light is correct. Seat cover is different from what I see again minor although those buddy seat are hard to find for that year. Again I'd consider this motorcycle if the price was right...curious what is it going for anyway? 20-22K Prices vary to region for sure... I know here in the Philadelphia S/E Pa area prices go kinda high prolly the same on the west coast as well. Let me see... New H-D or a 1965 Electra-Glide...no brainer Good Luck, Merlin in Pa.

Question no more. They were painted.

Thanks very much guys...more comments are appeciated I can have the bike for $20K...I suspect the bags are a later style given the reflectors and HD logos? I'm trying to get over to see it in person this weekend.

In 1980 I sold my '65 FLH to finance the purchase of a new '80 FLT. I still miss that '65!
I was hit head on by a drunk driver on the FLT two years later, a whole different story!
That '65 and I spent lots of good times together. And I got a whopping $2800.00 For it!! The one you are looking at looks mighty fine. If you are OK with the price that is the only important thing. Remember, none of us are making your payments!

I have an original paint 65 with low miles. When I got it it was very hard to start. I discovered that my 65 had no starter relay. Does anyone know when it appeared from the factory? I found an nos kit that the factory sold later to upgrade 65's with the relay. I think it had a 66 part number. If I ever had my 65 judged I would probably get dinged for the relay but at least I can get it started now.

Thanks guys. I have two problems when it comes to buying a '65. The first is that I am a relative newbie (this doesn't mean stupid I just haven't built up the knowledge base that I would like to have prior to a purchase and must rely on others that are helpful). The second problem is that I really don't know the market yet as it appears that very few nice Pans trade hands publicly. Again, I need to rely on guys like you to help guide me.

Just for reference...I am into 1967 Z-28 Camaros pretty heavily and have become known as one of the go-to guys when it comes to these cars. I get requests from guys all of the time for help assessing a car or placing a value on it and I have helped dozens of guys make the right buy. I guess the shoe is on the other foot here, so I appreciate all of your help.

Chrome pipes/exhaust came as part of the king of the highway option.

                        That is an incorrect statement.
Chrome pipes were not a part of The King Of The Highway Group. If you ordered the King Group you also had to order the Chrome Finish Group. The Chrome Finish Group included EXHAUST PIPE COVERS, CHROME, but not chrome pipes.

I'm still looking at it :-)

The ignition switch is the wrong one and you can get the right one for around $100 in good shape, Looking at the tailight blown up it may be correct only close eyes can tell if it's marked 55 as the assembly itself. So much could be aftermarket however it looks nice. Wheels should be marked externally with a 62DOT stamp on surfaces. Spokes should be Cadmium plated but many restorers use Stainless Steel. Let us know how ya make out and how it runs too. Merlin in Pa.

Since this same topic has come up on other threads, I was wondering when did chrome S & Y pipes as well as head pipes actually become available? Just looking through the last section of Palmers book, most of the 60's big twins look like they have chrome S & Y pipes.

Hard to see everything, but: Handlebars look like they have all modern controls (including throttle?) Should be spriral throttle and individual crhome switches routed through the the handlebars. If the throttle is not stock the carb is problaby a newer carb. I think the floorboards in '65 were retangle, not 1/2 moon. Seat is aftermarket, which makes me wonder about the Seat T. Bags were new style, with the reflectors and name. I'm sure there were no adornments on the bags in '65. The primary looks hi-polish or chrome. It was a duller finish. and I'm pretty sure the horn is Duoglide. Have no idea if the paint is a stock color for '65. They offered a Holiday Red but don't know from the pics if this bike is a true color. I think they did a nice job with what appears to be a bunch of reproduction parts? The vast majority of the bike looks like what it should look like. Hope this helps.
