Does anyone know when H-D changed the Linkert throttle lever from brass to steel?

I believe all the H-D levers were cast brass through '48, with the new lever for '49 being the first steel one. What are you trying to figure out?

The Panhead style 2 piece throttle levers were made in brass and steel. I would guess the brass type would be correct for my 51 FL, but how about the Duo-Glides?

For the two piece type as used from 49 and up, there are two types of top piece (part# 27267-49)which is made of steel. The early type had only one hole and was replaced by one with two holes for the 54 models. this was to give best throttle operation for either hand or foot shift. These both mounted on the 27260-49 base which is brass ( or bronze?). I thought all prior throttle levers were brass. Some years may have been cadmium plated and given the impression they were steel.

Three weeks ago I had 2 throttle levers, one brass, and the other sure looked like bare steel. Maybe I was confused. Anyway,I gave the steel one back to it's owner, as it wasn't correct for my 45FL.

              VPH-D,
I happened to be messing with Linkert parts today and pulled out all the throttle levers I had. The only steel ones I found were all two hole Panhead type with the tall levers, all the one hole type still had bronze bases with steel levers. All the earlier ones were bronze, some plain, some silver, a couple nickle plated. The silver ones appeared to be painted, not plated. So the only STEEL ones I found were the later Panhead type. I know this isn't the end all but I had 5 single hole and 4 two hole and all the two hole were steel.

                I encounter aluminum bases occasionally.
