This guy will pre-cut and stamp keys,
or just sell blanks (Yes, Briggs "B" keys) It is reported to me, he bought out B&S stock and has the originals too.

And I assume you know (but just in case) the code is the stamped into the top of the ignition lock.

        Keys

Maybe some one here can help me on a dumb question: On the mid fiftys FL, should the steering lock key be the same one as used for the ignition switch on originally equiped FL's? Seems I read that some where, Palmers maybe....Joe 3435

The keys that came with a mid 50s Panhead were for the neck lock. Since the ignition switch had no tumblers, any neck lock key would work to "lock" the ign switch.

They usually had two different keys.
I have never seen a switch from the MoCo without tumblers, except for military machines.
Neck locks are generally frozen and won't work even if you do have the key. Soaking the internals with Kroil will sometimes free them.

Thanks for the info. I remember having panheads in the sixtys, one a 49 the other a 62. Both locks on those had tumblers. As for my 54FL, I changed the fork stem tumbler and key, (Briggs&Stratton). The ignition on it is diffent tho and was wondering if that be correct. Not too sure on that one...Joe3435

Did all of the ignition switches have numbers on the lock? My 65 does not and I have two others that also do not have numbers.

My 54 lock has no numbers on it but does take a key and has the tumbler in it. This equiptment has been around so many years, cant say if its original. Could have been changed by some one by now... You almost need to refer to a one owner original bike to be sure how they came in that particular year in question and maybe Palmers Book is the only source or a dedicated Harley lock repair expert from many decades/years back?...Joe

Most have a number, although I have seen some without. But any experienced locksmith can take a Briggs & Stratton key and a file and have a working key in seconds.
