ported heads???

i've got a nice set of heads for my 58,however, i noticed the intake port is extensively ported,with oversize valves. whats the negative of running these with stock piston/compression and stock cam? thanks,jim

Port velocities may suffer a little but generally speaking the increase in airflow will cause greater gains and offset any marginal loss in throttle response. A little more cam duration would really help, but it should be just fine with a stock grind. Compression has nothing to do with flow really, but should be matched to cam timing to obtain proper chamber pressures.
