cadmium spoke

On my 1961 DuoGlide are chrome spokes. For the next judging I will change it: AMCA accept stainless steel spokes, I would prefere cadmium spokes. V-TWIN has the cadmium spokes. But how is the quality? Who know this? Has anyone else these spokes?

if you use the stainless spokes, glass bead them first. they will look like cad.
if you do not do this there is a 1/4 point per wheel deduction

I have the v-twin stainless spokes cad plated and it works out great. I have had the on one of my bikes for like 8 years with no problems. My plater tells me that they use a low quality of stainless that takes the plating very well.

I pick up used spokes at swap meets and custom shops and have them replated.

Most cad plating is done by putting the parts in a drum. The charge is for the drum size and not what is in it. My plater charges 50 bucks for whatever fits into a 15 gallon drum. I save swap meet parts for years in a 5 gallon bucket. When it is full I take it to the plater.

The AMCA Handbook of Judging states on page 16, item 22. " Do not deduct points for stainless steel spokes. There is no mention of mandatory glass beading.

Personally I see no reason to allow stainless steel spokes in the first place. Original machines did not have them. They detract from the look of the machine wether they are blasted or not. As far as Harley-Davidson's go I have always been able to locate either new or good replatable used spokes. In my opinion someone who choses to use stainless spokes on a restoration is just too lazy to get correct spokes.

this year we went back to the original rule of 1/4 point per wheel for stainless not glass beaded
the new handbook that is being printed now has the change listed
