  • pan cylinder ???

are 48 cylinders compatible with later cases? thanks, jim

No, original early pan cylinders can only be run on 52 and earlier cases with the oil drain gallies in them. Otherwise the oil will not return from the top end untill it gets deep enough to pour down the pushrod tubes. Conversely , you can run later cylinders that drain the oil to the piston skirts, on early pans. How do you know yor cylinders are 1948? My EL pan cylinders don't have any date codes or anything on them. I have seen old cylinders modified to drain oil to the piston skirts and would imagine that a good machine shop would be able to do this. I would look for the correct cylinders for my cases if it were mine though.
