    I guess '56 pans have 9 fins on the pushrod side. Mine has less. That could be the difference right there.

    I probably have 55 heads.

      I was just thinking about how you heads might have been changed and I remembered back in the 60's as a boy, One of the area Harley dealers used to keep things like heads, cylinders and even lower ends already rebuilt that you could bring your in and trade for parts already rebuilt and ready to run. He rebuilt them during the winter or other slow times, left him more time in summer for other work.

        seen some 16704-56 and 16706-56 on outside by pushrods seen some on inside by pushrods under pan cover what version goes on a 1957 FL

          You need the style with the number underneath by the pushrods.

          The other big fin style did not appear until 1958 even though they have a 1956 part number.
