Thanks ,I'm waiting for my tanks and fenders to come back from the painter ,and in no rush ,I'm also thinking of making a copy of my one existing rail ,I picked up some tubing and rod a month or 2 ago .If I make one ,I would still be interested in the fancy ones like in your photo.I plan to ride this bike till I'm dead or to old to get to it with a walker.

I haven't forgot you. I called the other day, but nothing yet. I got some mounts and chrome strips back from Brown's the other day. It actually cost more than the parts are worth, even at today's high prices. The costs are going to kill this past time. I am working on my '84 dresser, and the chrome latches are all "made in China". I was at a 4 wheeler show last weekend, and talking to them. They don't even bother with re-chroming most stuff. It is all repro.

Yeah, I know what your feeling ,I was quoted $70-$80 to have my rail chromed .

Heidyho, I'm still out here, and on the case. No luck yet, and now they are at the dealers meet. I'll keep checking on those guards.

Yes, anyone who is into old bikes eventually drops the word "rush" from their vocabulary. "No rush" is something I also learned NOT to say to some people. They take it and run with it, to next year, the next decade, etc.

Just thought I would let you know that I can't get the guards at the factory. They are out. But, my guy is seeing about getting some made, with the V pattern. I will let you know when I find out more.

I was told the other day that the remaking of those guards is in progress, so I will keep you updated. I might find out more at Lima, next Sunday.

bubble bags

This may be the wrong place to post this thread, I'm not sure. I have a chance to buy a fairly original 51 Panhead that has sat since 1970. Somewere along the way someone put on a set of bubble bags and changed the seat. My question is how were they mounted? These have a rail that swings around the bag in the front and has a flat plate that is bolted to a bracket that is welded to the frame right behind the oil tank, is this the way they all were? I am going to try to list a picture of the bags on the bike. Any help would surely be appreciated. Thanks Barry

Barry,
The bubble bag mounts bolted to the frame. They were bolted to the two large holes in your frames axle plates. Nothing was welded to the frame.

Neil there is still no end product on those remakes.
