  • Radio Special Wiring - 61 Generator

    Hello everyone

The radio special wiring in the manual, shows the gen to regulator wiring. This wiring is shielded with clips at the ends of the shielded part.

These two clips are shown as ground points in the diagram

The wiring is also fused and a separate ground strap is used behind the regulator.

In Palmer’s book, it says that this wiring was used with the 58 fan cooled gen (high drain) OR with a 61 gen (low drain).

In the book it clearly states how to mount the fuse holder on the regulator side and how to mount the one clip of the shielded end of the wiring to the regulator. These mounts are shown as grounds.

HOWEVER i cannot find in the book where to mount the other side of the shielded wiring on the generator side with either the 58 gen OR the 61 gen.

    I am using a 61 generator ….

Can a fellow member with experience on this setup advice? Please see pictures attached

    THANKS

First off I am no expert on Pan Police wiring, I was an electrician working with high voltage cables around computer communication cables. The newer high voltage cables had a shield. These shields were always gounded on ONE end. You do not want to complete the circuit on any shielded cable as it will defeat the purpose by completing the circuit. That being said, I would not be suprised that only one end is shown grounded because that is the way it was to defeat Radio Frequency Interference, RFI.

Hello Lyle and thank you very much for your reply that makes full sense.

The attachment on the regulator side is not a ground. What is shown as ground is a separate connection of the ground strap.

The actual ground on the cable is on the other side near the generator.

I just need to know where this clip mounts for ground?

Hopefully members with the same setup can advise further

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY Lyle Manheimer
