  • Bubble Bag Questions

    Hello Everyone,

I have a crusty 56 that I would like to find a set of bubble bags for. I want the 59-62 style with the rocket/comet/whatever that came on the white bags. If I get a set of mounting brackets for a rigid, will the later 59-62 style fit? Thank you!

    Joe

P.S. let me know if you have set for sale. Nothing pristine as my bike is old looking

Rigid Royalite bags fit on swing arm mounts and s/a bags fit on rigid mounts.

Joe, did you get my reply to your visitor message? PMs on this site generally don't function correctly.

Here it is. I don't know why the messages never work right.
" Hi Joe, there is no difference in the bags themselves, only in the mounting brackets. There is a specific type for rigids that bolt on the same holes as the sidecar mounts and crashbars. Any style emblem is merely cosmetic and all the bags interchange from the earliest K-Model type to the last of them as an option in '68. The white bags began in '59 and the comet was used until '62 when the rocket replaced it. I like that they are easy to bolt on and off if wanted. I use a pair of the '54-'57 type on my Knuckle for road runs and the like."

That is my experience as well, Robbie,...

Best avoided, as there is probably no way to fix it.

                  Thanks Again Robbie,

I found a nice set on ebay (I think, they are not here yet). They are the 63-64 style. I am curious about the guards - are they aftermarket/original/ or grafted off something else?

I found the same guards on a picture of a claimed original paint 1957 Panhead. Close enough for me to assume HD. BTW the bags and guards arrived, and they look super. A few small cracks to reinforce but overall, very nice. Will post pics when I get my new phone (my camera broke). Joe

Those are aftermarket guards Joe. H-D never made any until the later type around '63 which mount on the fender support and not the bag carriers.

Thanks Robbie! I knew you would know. They are nice and rusty like the rest of the bike so I'll "run em". Joe

Watch how much you stuff into those bags, the back of the bag will start to rip out if regularly over-loaded.
