65 panhead

I just got a 65 pan back together. It starts but I don't think I have something right. It has the original Linkert M carb and original advance distributor. After it gets warmed up it won't start unless I have choke on. After it starts I can get it to idle. Any ideas?

I think I got it. Turned low speed adjustment out more and now it lopes along. It was running really high. I don't work on Linkerts very often

Please beware, a lopeing idle is too slow.

Please tune mixture for the highest engine response, and then reduce RPM at the throttle bellcrank idle screw.

Adjusting to a smooth idle will assist lowspeed acceleration, and avoid 'flat spots'.

PS: When a machine 'lopes and bounces' at reduced idle, it is because it wasn't balanced for stationary duty. Engine wear is at its worst.
