    Oil temperature

Any members ever check oil temp?
I had used a turkey deep fryer thermometer and had 230 degrees. Does this sound hi?

Yes, I've monitored it on various HD engines for years.
No, 230F isn't to hot or a concern. Ultimately we want the temperature to run at 212 to around 240. This keeps the condensation from forming in the oil. 260-275F and above is were I start to get concerned. Where you actually measure oil temperatures varies the temperature you'll see as well. The temperatures I mentioned are taken around the oil fill spout area in general. Climate and riding environment play roles in temperature as well. Sometimes climate and/or short runs are harmful to the oil condition and engine/transmission life.
    Hope this helps.
