  • '48 Panhead horn mounting

Hi - I've had to buy another horn to replace the 'incorrect' one on the bike. The 'new' one is supplied with a black painted bracket for mounting - is this correct, or should it be parkerised? I've read Palmers and it is not clear, the picture on page 602 apppears to have a black painted bracket?

If it should be parkerised, how do you remove the bracket?

See enclosed pictures - new horn, parkerised bracket, 'old' horn

    Thanks

    Greg

It is the one sold by V-Twin with the detachable bracket. He says he "had to buy another horn to replace the 'incorrect' one on the bike." Not that he went to the dealer to buy it.
The first horn he pictured is correct with the painted bracket.

I know Indian Frank repaired and built fresh Indian Horns (besides his generator work). Maybe he could have a look at your horn, (the original one). Its worth a call.

For clarity to confirm all finishes related to the springer horn. I am also working on a 48, amongst others..

The horn body and mounting bracket are painted black?
The 6 carriage bolts, nuts and LW's are CAD?
The adjusting screw and locknut on the back are black, CAD or parkerized?
The wire terminal nuts are black, CAD, or parkerized?
The adjusting screw and locknut on the front (behind the cover) are black or parkerized?

For mounting - According to page 719 Third Edition, the top horn-to-headlight bracket special shoulder bolts and the two bottom horn-to-fender bracket screws use a flexloc nut starting in 48.

                  Thanks for confirming this information.
