  • When did date codes first appear on H-D Panhead cylinders?

According to page 295 of Palmer’s 37–64 SE the 1950 models were the earliest Pan cylinders to have date codes which infers that some 50 model cylinders had 1949 codes because they would have been cast in 49. But I have never seen a Pan cylinder date code from 49. The earliest date codes I’ve seen on Pan cylinders are from January 1950 and those cylinders may have been used for later-50 model bikes.

But what about early-50 model Pans? Did their cylinders have date codes?

Has anyone got a 1950 model Pan, regardless of early or late, with its original cylinders? And if so, do the cylinders have date codes? Thanks.
I'll also put this thread on the Panhead and Flathead forum.

It is two weeks since I started this thread and a thread on the Panhead and Flathead forum. Both threads have received more than 90 views but no answers yet which is why today I started a new thread. It is in the judging section.
