  • rear brake lining for 65 panhead

    Hi
    I just put new linings on the original shoe and just realized that the width is different,,,

    so.... which is which side or doesn't matter ? .... wonder why different??

    please advice.

    My memory fails, Shin,..

    And a service manual is not handy,

    But I believe the narrow lining shoe goes to the front.

          The shoes are arranged like that to help engagement and the somewhat negate the "self servo" effect caused by the single pivot. The rear (trailing) shoe will try to push harder against the drum due to the rotation and pivot position. By making it somewhat less effective that is minimized.
