  • 48 Panhead - worn counter shaft gear end washer - 35875-36

    Hi Guys

When examining the gear box, the washer is part worn through by rubbing against the countershaft bushing. I can install another of the correct size but I can see the same thing happening again and wondered if this is a common problem?

    Thanks

That is the point where all the wear occurs, common to every gearbox, and worse with poorly made aftermarket replacement parts. It can become worse with loose fitting rollers in the main drive gear which tends to cock slightly making the countershaft crawl away from it and putting pressure on the thrust washer (notice why it is on that end and not the other?) If all is within specs on the rest of the box it should last many tens of thousands of miles with no issues.
