  • 2 Different Linkert M-61 Carbs.

While digging in my carb. boxes for an M-61 for my 1950 EL, I noticed that I have 2 that are different castings. I'm guessing that one is later than the other. I would prefer to build the correct one for my machine. Anyone out there have any thoughts on this ? I've taken a few pics of the differences.
    Thanks, CraigCIMG1196.JPGCIMG1197.JPGCIMG1200.JPGCIMG1199.JPGCIMG1201.JPG

Just like M74s of the same year, Craig!

    (With no "B")

The 408s preceded the 418s, of course.
So they would be early-late 1950, huh.

    I greatly appreciate the pics!

Cotten; Thanks for the reply! Would the 408 be more correct for my EL being it is a 5 number ( 50EL10XXX ) which I figure is a late 1950 model ? More pics.
      Thanks, CraigCIMG1195.JPGCIMG1202.JPGCIMG1203.JPG

I would be conjuring a guess, Craig!

And only a pretentious judge would declare either "incorrect".
My rule of thumb is to always fix the worst one, and save the better one on the shelf.

Your 398 body was also used for the '48 M35TP and M36.
Note the boss over the large air correction hole. For inscrutable reasons, they had a restricted hole through the boss.

        I have M35s with both 378 and 388 bodies, an M35T with a 388, a few TPs and the 36 with 398, two M74s with 408, and a gaggle of Bs with 418.

Thank you for the data, Craig!

Wish I had kept better records.
Can anybody fill out/correct this series? (Were there 358 or 368 castings?)
Anybody got an M18 handy? A two screw M5?

            Thanks in advance,..

                Thanks Robbie!

I have edited them into the listing above,

Anybody got an M441 to see if its the same as the M8SA?

                Or M17L&R?
(A few pairs of 841s have crossed my benches, but never M17s.)

                  That's a good one, Badger34!

                  I am privy to blueprint evidence that the Becks were stamped at L&L;
My M8SA shows faintly where 441 was ground away (sigh).
