So... pre 69" Harley factory would sell you a set of replacement cases. This is my understanding anyway. If so, did those cases have belly numbers? or just blank cases?

All matched cases had the line bore number. There was a tag wired to a base stud that was a post card. It was addressed to The MoCo and had the line bore number on it. You were to fill in the serial number you stamped into the case and return it to the MoCo. The factory service department has a numerical list of line bore numbers back the the beginning. The serial number applied to the case is on this list.Be sure to visit;

I have a set of 1964 cases with good 1952 numbers on them. Back in the '70's I turned in my exploded '52 cases and ordered these. I also know of electric start Iron Heads with good K model numbers on them.Be sure to visit;

A similar case is a friend of mine moved from Colorado to San Luis Obispo to go to Cal Poly in about 1975 or so and brought his 57 Pan chopper with him. It had factory replacement cases as his originals were beyond repair, he told me. He had great fun going to events and winning the oldest machine ridden to the meet with his new engine that was stamped 41ULHxxxx! They would say, where's the bike and he would point to a pan chop with a super glide front end, Sporty tank and 41ULH numbers. I have no idea why that was, maybe a joke at the local H-D dealer in Colorado (?) that did the job or what. As I recall he bought the bike as a basket and took it to the local dealer for a new engine prior to moving to Arroyo Grande.Comment
