correct luggage rack for 48 panhead?

Hi guys

Palmers book states that the fender mounted option 2818-36A (53406-36) was available as an option. Does anyone know if this was available in black and chrome?

There are two types of luggage carriers in the 47 accessory catalog, both are black.

These are the two factory rack styles that were available. Everything else was aftermarket.

thanks Robbie, I checked the accessory catalogue for 48 and the one with bars (your second image) seems to be only available in black, chrome?

H-D never did them in chrome, the first chrome rack they offered for big twin started in '54 with the rigid frame version of the 3 bar rack. There are aftermarket copies of the flat strap type, mostly welded rather than riveted and with slightly different feet. They show up regularly. And of course the Comiskey type round rail were around in '48.

Here is a Comiskey and a three rail.
