  • Throttle cable routing

I am helping a friend with his panhead and the throttle cable is coming in on the right hand side of the bike, he took the carb off to rebuild it and there was a spacer in between the intake and carb. The throttle cable barely makes it to the throttle lever now and is binding up. It will only open 1/4 of the way and the top of the cable at the handlebars is moving back and forth. It worked fine before and I don't think it was ever ran right. The routing on the cable can't be right as it binds too easily. Any pictures of the proper routing and cable bracket would be very helpful! Thanks in advance.

The cable should go around the left side of the neck, the set screw is loose or missing from the handlebar.

The cable passes under the neck between the downtubes.

Sadly that isn't visible in factory photos. Do you have the correct brackets? Check your parts book. Colony makes them.

Hang on as there is a second printing of the second edition coming with up dates and corrections to the first printing second edition. But if you can't wait Debbie and Bruce will gladly send you one when you contact them. Info to order is in the club magazine.

So I guess I'll wait for the second edition printing to come out.

I see this book only goes to 1964 for FLH models. I have a 1965 FLH wondering if it will still be worth it to own?

1965 would need to it's own book as there are so many 65 only issues but there are enough cross overs to 64 that I think it is worth owning and know many 65 owners that feel the same way. Some one on here was thinking about doin a 65 book but I think realized there are so many issue with doing it that it was too daunting a task. I'm sure plenty of folks would love to see someone do it. Maybe your the one! I have a 64 so works for me.

Hey Tom, you are correct about the 65 only issues as I am learning everyday about this bike. I'm sure the book would still be worth owning just as a reference tool. Would be nice for someone to do a 65 only book but do see how it would be a very daunting task. Unfortunately I would not be the one as I'm sure what I don't know could fill a book.
