Starter Issues '65 FLH when Warm!

So the follow-up on the bike revealed no starter relay. My bike does have the Cycle Electric generator and I believe has the regulator built into the generator since my stock regulator mounted on the battery frame does not have any wires connected.
The starter relay wiring diagram has the number 1 terminal going to the BAT terminal on the regulator. Since I don't have anything going to the regulator, can I connect the starter relay terminal to the + side of the battery directly?Craig (Delaware)

If your CE generator has really ugly billet fins on the end, its their "end-bell" regulator.
With any luck at all, its attached to CE's OEM-style generator.
But if its CE's "built-in" construction, you're just gonna have to put up with ugly.
I suggest the circuit breaker update, too.

duffycycles is putting you on the right track. On my '67 FLH I narrowed the battery tray and cover to except an FX battery and I liked the look better as it now sticks out just as far as the oil tank on the other side. Plus I moved the regulator to the rear and below the battery box so it didn't fry on the rear pipe like stock (plus narrowing the battery box left no room for it in it's stock placement. If your out in the middle of nowhere and your battery goes down you can find FX ones at auto parts stores. Try that with an H-12. A wood block will work for a spacer but I love my narrowed box. Easier access to the transmission top to. I use a bosch relay like the newer bikes only hidden and their cheap an can be had at the same auto parts store. Harley still stocks the circuit breakers.DrSprocket

I agree with Rich.I use the late style plastic relay .It is a -91 number.The Oem ones are cheap & are 40 amp.Many in parts stores are 30 amp.I have seeen the 30 amp work just fine.I actually used some of that plastic deck material for the spacing.Much lighter than H-12 & still looks stock to most people.Interstate battery CYTX20-BS is the 310 amp.

So while I was taking the starter button apart just to take a look, the wire soldered to the bottom contact ring broke off. I guess while I was trying to pull it out from the handlebars a bit, I pulled too far or too hard.
So now I need a new switch. Can someone recommend a source for a new switch? If it's not one thing it's another!Craig (Delaware)

Jarrow, I still use a flip phone, stamps, and sealing wax so photos would be next to impossible for me, sorry. Craig, I've had mixed results with Tedd's so be forewarned. Quite a few haven't passed the smoke test. I'd try to find an original on flea-bay. Horn is the same. RichDrSprocket
