Why bother, your not going to see or repair anything. Drop the clutch basket, clutch pull rod, shifter arm and pull four bolts out of the mounting plate and slide the whole works out so if ya got to fix something you can. Bob LLast edited by Robert Luland; 02-24-2018, 06:48 PM.

It is actually easier to remove the entire transmission in order to do the work. You cannot get the top off with the oil tank in place. You cannot remove the oil tank with the rear fender in place. You cannot (at least not easily) remove the rear fender with the rear wheel in place. You CAN however, remove the entire transmission without even taking the clutch off, as H-D did when they built the bikes. Remove the left footboard (loosen and swing out of the way, remove the outer primary cover, remove the engine sprocket nut, the sprocket and the three bolts behind it. Remove the upper and lowere rear primary bolts, remove the 4 bolts holding the trans plate to the frame (do not remove the trans nuts!) and remove the 5th bolt on the right side of the frame. Remove the rear chain from the trans. The entire assembly with the inner primary and clutch still on will come out the left side with the kicker folded down as you remove it. Fix the top and put it all back in. With practice it is about a 2-3 hour job depending on how dirty stuff is. Oil lines, exhaust, etc., all stay in place.Robbie Knight Amca #2736
