I have a 55 panhead that I was running S&S two throat carb and later year pan heads. learned over a few years how to start and keep running with no problem. Just put date correct 55 cylinderheads and jugs. also read somewere that early flh's had m-75 carb. wanted it to be correct. after kicking for a few hours had it started a few times , adjusted carb so it ran nicely. trying to restart had to enrichen low speed needle to get started again and readjust Just can't seem to find right combination. cam is a mid 1980's performance cam that was just large enough not to require new valve springs. Might this be the problem? Anyone have suggestions? Thanks Jim

Jim!
You wanted the second version of the M74B.
The first diagnostic for any tuning complaint is to bubble-test your manifold assembly: http://virtualindian.org/11techleaktest.html
Performed while installing the manifold, it will prevent over-tightening of the clamps, and display any other concerns. It is also prudent to test the pan cover screws over each intake port near the motormount stud.
Note also that the seam between manifold and carb cannot be bubble-tested, so both flanges and the phenolic spacer should be arbitrarily ground to 'flat', and re-installed at no more than 10 ft-lbs torque.
When the assembly is absolute, then we can address other concerns.
