    panhead starter clutch

    what is that little spring loaded ball on the starter clutch do? Mine fell out. Do you really need it? I Don't see what it does. Thanks

    It keeps the big throw out bearing inner race spinning with the mainshaft. If you look at the id of the inner race you will see a groove that it is supposed to ride in. Jerry

      Thanks Jerry. So is the inner race of the throw out bearing constantly spinning with the main shaft or just when the clutch is used?
