I believe the rear motor mount bolts in 1965 were parkerized and some were Foster.

The rear on my 9,600 mile '65 are circle F cad.

Mine are parkerized circle F with an Aug. 11, 1964 build date.

Had my '65 out in the driveway pimping for the Perkiomen meet. Will look at the parts book, but how are you folks seeing rear engine mount bolts with the skid plate installed?? Apologize for my stupidity but figure I just lay on my back and look up? Skid plate is there so can't see engine mount bolts. A photo would be good. Otherwise I'm guessing parked. But a photo would tell me what to look at for Circle F, blah, blah.

You can see the heads of them below the crossover exhaust pipe. That will tell you the finish.

Circle F bolts are made by Foster. Foster is easier to type than Circle F.

Can anyone post a pic of a parked "Foster" bolt, Folks?

Not to be more than a gadfly, but patinated cad darkens to look a lot like gray parkerizing.
(Parkerizing varied enormously in the first place.)

Mine are cad Fosters.

To follow up with Cotten these/mine aren't patinated they are bright old style cad. Don't think I have any parked Fosters handy to look at, would have to dig. I'm messing with the bikes due to the season and will post if I find any parked fosters in the loose parts stuff. These particular ones in the discussion - seems to make sense they would be cad as they are top side and against the sand cast aluminum stuff or silver heat painted cast iron. But who knows what HD did back then if they ran out. Probably just picked parked if they were "in the bin" and the cad parts bin was empty :-)

But without smelling it, I'm not convinced its not cad.

There was a time folks were parkerizing their carb hardware just because it was dark.

Apparently airtight storage can cause the problem with fresh hardware, as I was warned by a supplier to not seal stuff up tight.

If I pour out my bucket of old bolts on the table to sort out HD bolts, will I look for an "F" in a circle (F as in Foster's) on every bolt on a HD? or just the case bolts? ..... just in case I go on a "purge" mission....
