  • Glide Front Brake Grease Deflector

I've seen hydraglide front brake backing plates with and without P/N 44165-48 which is described as a grease deflector. My parts book states their use from 1948 through 1957. However, I've seen many left-side backing plates that don't have this deflector. I know for certain that the deflector was installed on the 1949 and 1950 models, but not sure if its is correct (or necessary) for my 1953. Does anyone know whether or not the use of this part was discontinued and if so, when did that happen?
    Thanks..

It disappeared with the sealed bearings in 1967.

Thank you - Therefore all left side (star hub) backing plates should have the deflector. That makes sense.
