  • 1950 Title question

    My question, is it possible that on Wisconsin titles they did not use the prefix such as FL or FLH before the engine/identification number? Everything else looks legitimate. I'll try and attach the scan of the title. Thank you!

    Kurly, I found the below link on Wisconsin's DMV website. I would think if a salvage title, it would state as such. May be a reconstruction?

      The bike was titled with a non harley vin number and has (or had) a vin plate attached.
      Does the bike have an unaltered factory vin on left case?
      Altered vin, no vin on left case, state vin plate attached all decrease value, proceed with caution.

        I cannot speak with much experience, but my Dad had one that didn't match the "entire stamping", didn't even realize it for over 40 years till I looked at the title.

        I'd say anything is possible.

        Lets make one up "50FL1234" and break it down.
        50 = year
        FL = Model
        1234 = unique number

        If you look at the title it has a place for;
        year-make = 50HD
        identification# = 1234

        no where does it have a place for "model"

        so I'll probably get flamed but I would say it's very likely it was processed the way it is, back in 1971.

          Funny how it appears Wisconsin "models" their re-titled motorsickle identification numbers like/similar to the MoCo. There is obvious unknown history which hopefully the seller can explain. If buying for a points bike or for investment purposes, 1950Panhead is spot on. If for a daily rider & the buyer gets her for a decent price........ride the snot out of her!
