the idler gear in a transmission is for 3 speed or a reverse is that correct 4 speed will not have one ?

The idler gear 36140-36 (2365-36) and it's shaft 36158-36 (2367-36) are only used in the 3 speed with reverse gear box. 3 speed without reverse and 4 speed gear boxes do not have it installed. In fact, I've seen later panhead tranny cases that were not even machined for the shaft ... Perry -
